- He has a younger sister, whom has a son and two daughters.
- Somewhere, there was an uncle, but neither Gemini nor his sister have seen him in many years.
- His sister's boyfriend is also gone now. ... and he'd better hope Gemini never finds him, because he will die.
Some few years ago, the name Mornaux didn't really mean anything at all, and Gemini was born to a House with essentially no name. The House were small, very low-born, from freedmen several generations back that never did have much luck, and meant nothing to anyone. It was, however, very peaceful, and the house were mostly farmers, out of necessity. What they had, the land gave them, and they were mostly content with that.
As thngs go, though, when Gemini was around ten or eleven (he honestly doesn't know exactly how old he is), the house faced a very serious drought, on their own. And what was better was, elsewhere in Dalmasca, it was flooding, but it was brackish. Not very useful for farmland. The Mornauxs lost almost everything, and Gemini remembers his parents selling almost everything they had to be able to make up for the lack of crop that year. To make matters worse, locusts got into their grain stores.
One could call Gemini a self-made man, much like the master of House Greyson. Unlike the master of House Greyson, though, Gemini has not lost his patron house, and he does not intend to. His family needed to leave their home, as they couldn't afford the land taxes anymore, and they moved to Nydema, in hopes of finding something else they could feed themselves with. His father became something of a blacksmith's apprentice, but an unfortunate accident wiped him off the map. Gemini hardly remembers him, anymore. His mother eventually went crippled, being worked too hard in the textile industry creating dresses and such for demanding nobles.
His sister almost escaped it, marrying into another house, but instead, she got three children she couldn't feed and a broken heart. Gemini, annoyed at everything, got into perhaps not very legal stuff, but in Nydema, no one really squints too hard at you if you're careful enough. In time, he got them a solid enough footing, through crime mostly, and started to gather together the city's mercenaries and assassins. Eventually, they were training them, and then, Gemini started training messenger birds, fairly intelligent creatures that could spy, pass messages, and even cast small amounts of magic.
Gemini and his little birds took over Nydema, in a sense, right under everyone else's noses. By now, House Mornaux are healers and doctors, at least, during the day, but they know all manner of poisons, and drugs, and command the largest mercenary guild in Dalmasca. And he was somewhat surprised, when House Essair came to him. Kassandros demanded only his loyalty, and in return, promised protection, from enemy houses and the law both, and that he'd never find his family without enough to eat again, regardless of what the market did. At first, Gemini believed he didn't need it, and refused. Kassandros told him to find him if he ever changed his mind, and that was that.
At least, until one of Gemini's smuggling rings was taken down. House Mornaux, at the time, had precisely zero allies, and they were on their own. While awaiting his trial, Kassandros came back, and asked if he'd like to change his mind. Gemini figured that, the worst that happened was, what already was going to happen, anyway. He agreed, then. House Mornaux would pledge service to Essair.
Gemini was headed home two hours later. Some time after, the charges were dropped. Gemini has no idea how Kassandros did that, but on the other hand, he's not complaining. The vast majority of the street patrols in Nydema are now being replaced with mostly House Mornaux, with notable House Irovaine presence, under the House Essair Ardent Cobra banner, and Mornaux were the first house to join the Cobras. One could, in a sense, consider Gemini the co-founder of the Cobras.
And since then, Gemini has only grown to love Kassandros more. Perhaps, not entirely in the romantic manner, he doesn't know. What he does know, is Kassandros cares too much about people that do not and maybe never will care for him. And in loving him, Gemini is, and has almost always been, against his reach for Imperator.
In the interim, he and Mikhael, the leader of House Irovaine, have been getting much closer, and maybe someday, they'll be a bit more than just friends. Who knows.
