- Both his parents are alive.
- He had an uncle that used to lead House Irovaine, but he was killed.
- He has an older sister and two younger, and a younger brother.
Primarily, House Irovaine mind their own business, and that was how it'd been since long before Mikhael was born. In more recent years, however, House Irovaine had been gaining quite a bit of influence in Dalmasca, and this was leading to many problems on their end. Almost everyone in Dalmasca wanted the influence Irovaine seemed to have land in their lap, but none were willing to do the work for it, instead opting to murder and backstab and scheme to get what they wanted.
The Irovaines did what they could, minded their own business, and stayed out of most messes. By the time Mikhael was old enough to enter the military, they had not one but two Justicars among their number, and stood to have a Prime, the primary justicar of a given region, that represented their region on the Imperator's council. One of these justicars was murdered, just before Mikhael went on his first military tour.
Some time later, after Mikhael had been in the military for a time, and promoted a few times, he lost his uncle, the second justicar in the line, and the at the time lead of House Irovaine. Mikhael's father took over after him, but the house never fully recovered. There were too many threats to defend against, and it is quite likely House Irovaine would've collapsed not long after, were it not for House Essair.
Kassandros was fourteen, at the time Mikhael met him, and at that time, he didn't think much of the boy. He promised their enemies dealt with and House Irovaine left to its own devices, and all he asked in return was their loyalty. It seemed too good to be true, but at that time, Mikhael's father was preparing his own affairs, about to divorce his wife, and arranging husbands that could protect his daughters when the house inevitably crashed. At that time, it was worth it, and even Mikhael had to admit that, if Kassandros could do even half of what he said he could.
Over the following months, their enemies either happened to trip into legal trouble, were destroyed by some unknown thing or other house, or otherwise disappeared. And just like that, House Irovaine were strengthened many times over, Mikhael had become a military commander, and Irovaine were almost untouchable. A short time later, Mikhael had become a Justicar, and once again, Irovaine stood to have a Prime.
Thus far, Mikhael has opted to remain a mere justicar. His military efforts remain, and where he can, he helps protect the Essairs when they're out on tour with him and his. He has also become the house's leader, as his father wanted to step down and spend the extra time with his wife and kids. Things had gotten very tense for a bit, and he's alright never experiencing that again, and Mikhael can't blame him much. Mikhael has also joined, as have many of his soldiers, the Ardent Cobras, the not-quite-legal group headed by Kassandros. Most of the time, he just turns a blind eye to a lot of what they do, but he cannot deny they're doing Nydema more good than anything else has even tried to.
In the interim, he's been getting very friendly with Gemini Mornaux, the head of house of another of Essair's vassals. They're not really a thing yet, but, maybe they will be.
He has a decent control over his earth sorcery, at least good enough not to break things all the time.
Mikhael also leads a smaller group called the Daevas, a cluster of Dalmascans that are pro-Messiah, and they find and bring to safety any stray mages that are found around Nydema. Their operations are starting to expand into northern Dalmasca and parts of Jihon.
